There are a number of entities that serve the good people of San Andreas- but none quite like the entity known as Public Works.
In fact, your first thought about Public Works might be "Oh, the folks with the bouncy house?"(RIP) or "The Big Colorful Tow Trucks" and "Oh, the workers who are always here in the hospital?"... but that's just a surface impression. Public Works is more than flashy colors and good times (though they do know how to keep it lighthearted).
While LSPD's goal may be to serve and protect, and Eclipse's purpose is to keep the body and mind intact, Public Works takes care of the heart of the city and its people. Think of them as the cogs keeping the moving parts, well, moving.
In fact, let's break down what Public Works is, and what they do, first: If you've got a car with a dead engine that needs a tow? Call Public Works. Someone graffitied your Ranger station? Public Works. Rat infestation in your Deli? Public Works. Replacing windows, doors, repotting flowers and setting up fence posts that were downed at a public venue? Helicopter crash? Run out of gas? Boat beached? Motorcycle in the water? Well, that's Public Works, too. They do all of this, and they do all of this free of charge to the people of San Andreas. They're hard working, day in and day out, with no job too big or too small. Most importantly: They operate like a family unit. Sure, there is plenty of friendly rivalry (who has the most tows, who has the better response time) but at the end of the day, they tend to operate with a 'No Public Worker left behind' mentality.
While in the past I have been witness to some less savory acts by those in the yellow and orange vests, the people of Public Works today (a year later) are some of the most welcoming, friendly, and enthusiastic people I've ever met-- always willing to share knowledge, a kind word, and a baseball butt-slap. They're punctual and professional, and hold each other (and themselves) accountable, and this is largely due to the leadership and culture created from within.
At the end of the day, Public Works not only takes care of the public and their needs, but each other. If you're looking for a Ride-or-Die? Well, that's them- and I for one, and proud to know them-- the rest of the city should be, too.
Tow-men.
